Theatre Hive is a local production-based theatre training company focused on high quality creation for youth.
Courses are available for children from grade 1 straight through grade 12, and range in activities from skill-building games to creating your own play! Registration is now open and classes run weekly from September through April, with delivery mostly online for the time being. Available courses include:
Acting 1, 2 and 3
Acting classes are focused on theatre games, scene work, acting technique, monologues, character creation, projection and we end our year by writing our own show. Acting classes are taught by Kara Spencer (OCT), who has been in the industry for over 30 years and teaching theatre to youth for the past 10 years.
Mini Musicals and Musical Theatre 1, 2 and 3
Musical Theatre classes are geared toward games, scene work, acting and singing technique, solo or duet performance, choreography and they end the year by writing their own musical. Acting classes are taught by Kara Spencer and Jackson Seib. Jackson has an extensive musical career in writing and improvising music in the GTA. His music is intelligent, layered and full of amazing harmonies.
Improv 1 and 2
Improv classes are a 12 week course, focused on having fun, letting go of hesitation and learning how to say YES! Students will learn to problem-solve and collaborate through character, environment and storytelling exercises. Taught by Natasha Boomer, who has over 20 years of experience in the improv and comedy scene and has taught and performed at Second City, Bad Dog Theatre, Social Capital and GO Comedy Theatre in Detroit.
This 12 week course is focused on proper singing technique, maintaining a healthy voice, how to approach the learning of a song and polishing it for performance. Students will learn solos and group songs. This course is taught by Canadian mezzo soprano Cassandra Warner. Cassandra is an internationally acclaimed opera singer and she makes sure that learning is fun!
Theatre Hive is located at 340 Henry Street, Unit 9, in Brantford. Classes run weekly beginning in September through the end of April. Registration can be done easily online on the Theatre Hive website.
