Tourism Brantford recently attended the Sport Events Congress 2015, presented by Tourism Toronto and supported by the Province of Ontario, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto. Toronto played host to CSTA’s annual conference which attracts representatives from the sport, tourism and event management sectors.
The Congress attracted a record high number of attendees with over 420 members of the sport and tourism communities taking part. Tourism Brantford presented a session topic on how Sporting Events can provide huge successes in smaller communities.
Sport Events Congress 2015 also featured a variety of off-site social events and excursions which allowed delegates to experience Toronto and its event hosting expertise. Highlights included visits to the Cisco Milton Pan Am / Parapan Am Velodrome, the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, the Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, the Steam Whistle Brewery and the Air Canada Centre for a thrilling 99-96 Raptors victory over the Houston Rockets.
Over 60 national/multi-sport organizations, provincial sport organizations and events rights holders participated in Sport Events Exchange, the events marketplace that remains the #1 ranked element of the Congress on an annual basis. Both sport organizations and Canadian municipalities benefited from the opportunity to meet and explore event bidding and hosting opportunities.
Tourism Brantford staff met with 19 provincial and national sport organizations and now staff are preparing to submit bids for four upcoming national sporting events.
