You’d be hard-pressed to find many people who don’t consider pizza one of their favourite foods. Whether you love this dish for its nostalgic value, you enjoy trying creative concoctions, or you appreciate simplicity and convenience, pizza is a staple on many menus. Tourism Brantford staff are no exception, and have some of their favourite pizza joints, orders, and stories to share about this beloved dish.
Tourism Counsellor, Audrey Loch’s favourite is the Pesto Caprese pizza from Boston Pizza; the crispy, chewy dough sets this restaurant apart for her. With two locations right here in Brantford, this restaurant is a family-friendly restaurant that is extremely popular with the sport tournament crowd here in Brantford.
Aisha Godbout, Ontario 55+ Winter Games Coordinator, loves how quick, easy and convenient Domino’s is. She and her husband are such fans that they made a New Year’s resolution to force themselves to try even more local pizza options to spread their tastebuds around town! Her favourite? Canadian with a side of cheesy bread.
Mercasa Little Italy Eatery
Located just down the street from the Tourism Centre is Mercasa Little Italy Eatery & Catering. Staff love heading to 'the south office' for a quick lunch in the trendy 'fast casual' restaurant that has taken Italy - and now Brantford - by storm. Delicious pizza slices and sandwiches, you can't miss Mercasa and don't forget to finish your tasty meal off with a homemade gelato before you go!
“Luciani’s has the best slices hands down… they’re thick and cheesy,” says Kara Davey, Arts & Culture Development Officer. This lifelong Brantfordian loves the nostalgia of Luciani’s. During her elementary school days, Kara used to walk there on Fridays for lunch with friends. She loves her local pizza so much that she even made a list of her favourite pizza places for her out-of-town wedding guests when she got married.
Maria’s Original Pizza (428 Colborne Street, Brantford)
Maria’s Pizza and Spaghetti House opened in 1968, and since the early 1970s, Tourism Counsellor Lisa Burdett’s family has been their biggest fan. “Everything on the menu is homemade and absolutely delicious!” Her family recommends the 12-slice pizza with pepperoni, bacon and green pepper.
Strombolis Pizza & Wings
A few of our staff recommended Stromboli’s. Their tips? “Ask for it lightly done with Brick Oven sauce – you won’t regret it!” Plus, you can order this sauce on the side to dip their delicious wings in.
Tourism Counsellor, Trish Barsby, also can’t say enough about Stromboli’s, and seconds the Brick Oven sauce recommendation. “The sauce is a very important part of the pizza, and the only way to get the full enjoyment of Stromboli’s, in my opinion.” This restaurant not only has great food, but holds a special place in Trish’s heart. When she first started dating her husband, he introduced her to this “Brantford staple.” She’s now passed this love down to her family – so much so that when her brother visits from Alabama, her family gathers at Stromboli’s before he goes back.
Sara Munroe, Manager of Tourism, Culture and Sport, is a passionate Zaza’s advocate. Her favourite is the Romana, a thin-crust, wood fired pizza topped with anchovies and chili oil. Their Margarita pizza is also a favourite, as it’s topped with homemade basil drizzle.
